Los Angeles Fire Department in process to double the drones

Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is the world’s 3rd largest fire department where first and second places goes to New York and Chicago. Previous year, LAFD has been a witness to 691 million dollars budget. This year, to identify and prevent the fire incidents Los Angeles Fire Department accounting for a significant increase in the drones. Los Angeles proved itself as an early and emerging leader in the field of drone fleet in fire department. This was possible due to its tie-up with DJI, a Chinese drone manufacturer.

In the history, this was one of the largest partnerships with a fire-fighting agency of the United States. The enterprise partnership manager, Bill Chen felt very happy for the two way collaboration with world’s third-largest fire fighting agency. Along with Los Angeles Fire Department, this two way process also helped the company to find its efficiency and capacity of a drone helping in emergencies.

This experiment was conducted in one of the complex and busiest urban environment of the US ans was successful. As a result, in the span of 5 months the Battalion Chief, Richard Fields thought about making the working drones double which includes a fleet of newly deployed working drones.

Richard Fields, who is the head of department’s Unmanned aerial systems program and serves as the Battalion Chief wants a visible and significant increase in drones that are being used. He also mentioned about their upcoming plans regarding the fleet of drones.

On this context, Fields said that “Our next iteration is to start using our drones to assist our specialized resources”. Those are firefighters and support crews that deal with hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, marine environments and swift water rescues.

Fields credited the amount of strong training to the unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) that are being involved in emergencies and life-saving situations successfully. He also claimed that LAFD pilot will receive up to 80 hours of training. Compared to any other drone operator, this was recorded to be larger in amount. Thus, it is clear that the efficiency of a drone operator who operates in emergency situations plays a crucial role in the success rate of drones.

This LAFD alone has responded to 500000 calls nearly in the year 2019. It has been an organization with 258 fire engines, helicopters and ambulances. Also, it has 11 drones that aids to number of helicopters, engines, and other vehicles. Los Angeles Fire Department is known to be well aware of numerous unavoidable fire breakouts and is always successful to fight through those outbreaks. Recently, it prevented 40 acres of wildfire which resulted to damage El Sereno homes.

Hence, to overcome unavoidable situations, the drones helped the fire department several times. They fight the emergency situations by using the drones which contain the infrared sensor technology that helps in assessing the fire properly. We hope the LAFD serve mankind in a lot better way by achieving the significant drones.
